ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project aims at strengthening the capacity of universities and research centres (HEIs) in two regions (EU and Latin America), to lead a coalition of public institutions, agrofood business and labour and human rights advocates to develop different educative tools and training programs to ensure solid standards of decent work in EU-LA agricultural and trade relations and the fight against labour exploitation.

In order to do so, the project presents an innovative educational program that directly involves 10 HEIs from 7 different countries with strong commercial ties in terms of agricultural production. It directly involves academic institutions but also other key stakeholders, it designs a common shared curricula plus specialized training activities aimed at different professional profiles involved in rising labour protection standards in the agrifood sector.

The project aims in particular at:

Promoting changes in the structure and organization of universities to be better equipped to become catalysts of economic and social development in the EU and non-associated third countries. universities will need to adapt their current established academic culture to reach out other stakeholders, create transnational flexible collaboration and engage other key partners to include their knowledge in blended programs that enhance professional skills and thus reach beyond their usual academic audiences.
Strengthening the compromise and capacities of higher education institutions to address challenges like promotion of human rights and protection of workers in an innovative way - innovative teaching and training tools (MOOCs, legal clinics, etc..) to better protect the workforce and to strengthen the capacities of organized civil society in fighting against abusive practices.
Identifying the kind of knowledge and skills necessary to create a common standpoint curricula across participating countries for potential students and participants to obtain and credit basic knowledge and training.
